Jorma Luhta (born 1951), a sensitive observer of wild life and listener to its sounds, takes his readers along with him on a series of excursions among the barren upland fells of Nothern Lapland, to marvel at the scenery and make observations at close quarters on the lives of the lemmings, arctic foxes and the magnificent variety of birds to be found there. His gently contemplative account of his journeys reflects not only a concern for the sustainability of the balance of nature in the region but above all a passion for orserving and protecting nature and a great breadth of thinking and vision that is grounded in decades of experience. Wanderers in the North is the latest milestone in the long career of this multiple award-winning photographer and author.
